BRIDGE Grant Purpose:

The BRIDGE project will provide education, training, and placement services to more than 1,000 veterans, and incumbent, dislocated, or unemployed workers in the greater San Diego region. The grant facilitates connecting individuals to employment in biotechnology and the life sciences. The BRIDGE project is designed to provide pathways to employment for students in high school through to students with advanced graduate degrees.

Programs Offered:

Programs offered through this project include noncredit training and community college and university education for individuals at high school, associates, bachelors, and graduate degree levels.

Curriculum:

• Life Science Immersion Program: This online certificate program will use industry driven curriculum to give individuals the business acumen and soft skills needed to successfully advance in life science careers.

• Medical Laboratory Technician: The Medical Laboratory Technology Training program prepares students for employment in clinical laboratories, industry, and biotechnology as a Medical Laboratory Technician, Laboratory Assistant and or Research Technician/Associate.

• Clinical Laboratory Scientist Training: Clinical laboratory scientists perform laboratory analyses that aid physicians in diagnosing the absence, presence or extent of disease, along with monitoring therapy. Can work in Hospitals or labs dealing with human specimens.

• BioInformatics: The curriculum of the program is designed to accommodate students from four corners of sciences as well as engineering. The program will accept students with backgrounds in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering.

• Computational Sciences: The aim of the program is to educate professional researchers capable of effectively utilizing modern computational tools to tackle a variety of cutting-edge scientific problems. The distinctive feature of the program is its interdisciplinary character; computation as a fundamental tool is emphasized as the program exposes students to a broad cross section of the applied sciences.

• Regulatory Affairs: The certificate and MA degree focuses on laws and regulations related to the various steps in the development process for pharmaceuticals, biologics, and medical devices, with an understanding of the regulatory impact on this process.
