BIOCOM listens and works for you. As the most successful regional life science association in the world, BIOCOM plays an influential role in matters of public policy, workforce development, capital development and group purchasing. In 2010, BIOCOM worked harder than ever to deliver value to its members through targeted programs, and to provide a collective industry voice on issues important to the region.

BIOCOM launched several new and exciting initatives in 2010. The much-anticipated CRO Initiative included a discipline-specific mixer that brought together industry representatives and local CROs. BIOCOM also launched a new event series focused on working with CROs. A web portal was constructed to provide BIOCOM's life science companies direct access to its CRO members by allowing searches for specific criteria based upon individual company needs.

BIOCOM kicked off Reimbursement Workshops, programs designed by industry professionals to help members achieve pricing, reimbursement and product utilization goals through a better understanding of health economics. Industry experts led a deep-dive into issues and facilitated engaging round table discussions with members.

BIOCOM continued its emphasis on Public Policy in 2010. BIOCOM played an important role in advocacy with members of the California Congressional delegation, working with other partners in securing overwhelming support from the California delegation for 12 years of data exclusivity for biologics within the federal health care reform package. In response to proposed 510K regulatory changes, BIOCOM engaged its membership for input, conducting two well-attended town hall meetings to gather member feedback and present a collective voice to the FDA.

The past year was especially successful for BIOCOM due in part to the new initiatives, benefits and programs that were launched as a direct result of member feedback. However, an equally important factor in the success of 2010 was the continued growth of our established programs. BIOCOM emphasized the Asia Initiative by holding a prestigious 2nd CALAsia conference that featured speakers from around the world. BIOCOM also organized four trips to Asia with delegations from member companies. BIOCOM's Medical Device and Diagnostics Group added a full day conference in the fall and concluded a successful year with Device Expo, highlighting the region's latest medical device innovations to investors, decision makers and colleagues.
