Help Build Science Proficiency in our Schools
You can help increase science literacy and make a difference in your community. The BIOCOM Institute needs industry feedback regarding lessons created for the Science Education Speakers Bureau, a program that matches industry professionals with K-12 volunteer speaking/teaching opportunities. The ultimate goal of this resource alignment between educators and industry is to increase student proficiency in science.
This small time commitment can make a very big impact in our schools. Please email kgrover@biocom.org to help with this important initiative.
This project was funded in part by grants from the Pfizer Foundation and The San Diego Foundation.

CSUSM Biotech Beach Career Connection (BBCC)
The purpose of the BBCC is to provide a networking opportunity for students interested in the Biotech industry to meet companies in San Diego. In addition, the event will promote awareness of the Biotechnology degree offered at CSUSM which has been tailored and shaped by the needs and standards of biotech companies in San Diego. The forum will consist of information tables as well as open areas for mixing and networking.
The event will commence with a brief program discussing the Biotechnology curriculum, introduction to the officers of The Biotech Club and acknowledgement of faculty and staff involved with the program and the networking event. If you have any questions or would like to RSVP, please email Cari Cox at Cox036@cougars.csusm.edu. Please RSVP by Friday March 20th. If another department within your company handles student events please forward this information on to them.
Paid Interns for the Summer
NSF MESA Summer Team needs companies to participate in their internship program. The STEM Talent Expansion Program (STEP) Partnership of San Diego (SPSD) was awarded a 1.9 million dollar grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to help increase the number of Science and Engineering graduates getting a baccalaureate degree. This grant will provide stipends of $1,250 to 36 student interns for 100 internship hours each, this summer. They would like to pay their students to work for you! That's right! Each intern can do 100 hours of FREE work for you this summer 2009!
The program is currently identifying the top MESA students from San Diego State, Southwestern College, and City College who will participate in this year's summer internship program. The students will be ready to begin working immediately at your company around late May or early June 2009. Each company can also have complete control over the hiring process, reviewing resumes, interviewing, and making an offer. Please contact Angeline Villanueva Yang at ayang@projects.sdsu.edu to identify your company's interest and to receive program developments and updates.
