Life Sciences Summer Institute Looking for Internship Hosts
Initiated in 2005, the Life Sciences Summer Institute (LSSI) connects local students and teachers with leading research institutes and companies within Southern California’s life science community through student internships and teacher externships.
While the high school student internship program attracts over 300 highly qualified applicants, it currently can only accommodate a small percentage of those students. In an effort to build capacity for these interested students, we are reaching out to academic labs and research institutes in hopes to identify additional host sites and industry companies who are interested in hosting or sponsoring student interns.
Join the BIOCOM Institute and the San Diego Workforce Partnership for a free workshop to learn about LSSI and receive information about hosting a pre-trained intern. This summer there are opportunities for matching funds to help subsidize internships. Any investment in the LSSI programs is an investment in our industry’s future. Please join us in making a difference by attending this event to learn how your company can take part in this innovative internship program.
Bagels and coffee will be provided. For more information and to register please click please click here.

New BIOCOM Orange County HR Committee Launched
Practicing HR in the bioscience sector presents a unique set of issues that are as specialized as the industry itself. The BIOCOM Orange County HR Committee has been formed with the objective of enabling and encouraging HR professionals in the life science industry to freely share their best and next practices. The committee will create opportunities for members in Orange County to network and communicate HR knowledge as well as identify and address workforce barriers to future workforce development.
Join us for the inaugural BIOCOM Orange County HR Committee Event as we discuss merging trends for today's HR Professional and what you should know to stay on the forefront rather than hidden in the bunker. Hear from Victoria Tucker, Managing Director of ZeroBoundary, who has been streamlining strategies for emerging science and technologically based businesses for more than 20 years.
This event is free. Breakfast will be provided by Marsh Risk & Insurance Services and parking will be comped by Mercer. For more information and to register please click please click here.
