BIOCOM Institute’s Science Education Speaker Bureau Needs Volunteers
The Science Education Speakers Bureau is an innovative program that matches industry professionals from business, research and higher education with K-12 classroom volunteer teaching/speaking opportunities. The program leverages the involvement of a community rich in scientific professionals to provide positive science role models to students and teachers. This project will have a significant impact on the quality of teaching and learning of science throughout the region’s 700 public schools.
As volunteerism is an important practice to life science companies, this project will give industry professionals the tools to co-teach in middle school classrooms where their knowledge and skills will be valuable in educating and motivating our future workforce. Our unique model provides a dissemination system that reflects current science applications. Industry professionals will be trained on the middleschool classroom environment and curriculum.
Here are some upcoming opportunities to excite students about science:

BIOCOM: Constantly Adding Value for our Members
Due to the tough economic environment and our desire to get talented workers hired, the BIOCOM Institute and BioSpace have decided to offer BIOCOM members free access to the regional BIOCOM Career Center resume database and one free job posting for the month of June.
The BIOCOM Career Center, powered by BioSpace's award-winning technology platform, is a regional online job board that is utilized by lifescience employers and job candidates in California. The career center offers unprecedented exposure to active and passive jobseekers in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, diagnostics, academic and other life science industries. The resume database is a strategic staffing solution that will allow your company to search resumes using filters that tailor search results to fit specific recruitment needs.
If your company has recently been a part of Reduction in Force, the career center can also help by offering former employees a tool to find employment opportunities. Candidates are able to create accounts, apply for jobs, and post their resumes for viewing by local employers. To register and upload resumes at the BIOCOM Career Center please visit: http://biocom.biospace.com/JobSeeker/JobSeekerLogin.aspx
The BIOCOM Career Center offers a powerful solution for BIOCOM members looking to fill open positions with top talent from the Southern California area. If you are interested in this offer please email kgrover@biocom.org so that we may set you up with a password for the month of June. This is free to all BIOCOM members so please feel free to pass on to your colleagues.
BIOCollaborative: A One-Stop-Shop for Talented Interns
The BIOCollaborative is apartnership between the BIOCOM Institute and the California State University system that will create a seamless transition from Professional Science Master’s graduate training to high demand employment in the life sciences for career entrants and current staff using state-of-the-art, web-based resources.
The Professional Science Master’s degree is a graduate program that prepares science professionals with the strong research backgrounds they need for the pharmaceutical, medical devices and diagnostics sectors while also training them in the managerial, financial, and legal areas needed for business success.
An important component to the BIOCollaborative program is to provide skilled PSM graduates for life science internship opportunities. BIOCOM would like to create a one-stop-shop for members to access talented PSM graduates for internships. As we create this resource we would greatly appreciate your feedback. Please click HERE to fill out an internship questionnaire that will ask questions regarding how your company recruits for interns.
