Mira Costa Community College Math and Science Fair

In April 2010, the Mira Costa Community College will sponsor the fifth annual Community Math and Science Fair. The purpose of this event is twofold. First, it provides students the opportunity to apply the knowledge learned in class in a meaningful and relevant way. Research demonstrates that when students teach others what they have learned, they retain information longer and have a deeper understanding of the material. Each year, approximately 150 students from various disciplines work with their professors to plan math and science exhibits, activities and demonstrations. Students are challenged to take what they have learned and share that knowledge with the school children. It is estimated there will be over 600 school children from K-12 and their families in attendance.

Mira Costa College Foundation is looking for sponsors to help offset some of the costs of this event, estimated to be $2000 for supplies and T-shirts to identify the students on campus.

If you are interested in supporting the Math and Science Fair please contact: David Broad, Foundation President, davidbroad@msn.com.
