Event Information

BIOCOM presents its Legislative Roundtable with Congressman Brian Bilbray. This roundtable provides a unique opportunity for BIOCOM members to have a casual discussion with our Congressmember as critical federal issues come to the forefront.

Congressman Bilbray represents California's 50th Congressional District which includes the cities of San Diego, Escondido, Carlsbad, Encinitas, San Marcos, Del Mar, Solana Beach and the communities of Rancho Santa Fe and Fairbanks Ranch.

Bilbray currently serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the Committee on Veteran's Affairs and the Science and Technology Committee. In addition to these important committees, Mr. Bilbray is the Co-Chair of the Congressional Biomedical Research Caucus; a 78 member bipartisan caucus dedicated to educating and advancing life science issues throughout Capitol Hill. Additionally, Mr. Bilbray also serves on the House Diabetes Caucus, Alzheimer's Caucus, MS caucus, R&D caucus and the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M) caucus.

As a strong supporter for the life science industry in Southern California, Mr. Bilbray arranged a meeting in February between NIH Director Frances Collins and Southern California life science executives in San Diego to discuss industry issues and how companies can better to work with the NIH. During his time in Congress, Congressman Bilbray has been an outspoken champion for biomedical innovation. Mr. Bilbray advocated for the Follow-on Biologics Pathway and the Comparative Effectiveness Research legislation that was included in the health care reform package. He supports access to Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants by venture-backed companies, opposes prescription drug importation, and worked with Representative Susan Davis in calling for the additional NIH funding that was ultimately included in the stimulus bill.

Please join us in welcoming Congressman Brian Bilbray to our legislative roundtable series.
