LSSI High School Internship Program

The LSSI High School Internship Program is an eight-week program, which includes one week of non-paid pre-internship training ('boot camp'), followed by a seven-week paid internship in a research lab. Through a competitive interview process, students may obtain an internship position at one of San Diego 's world-renowned scientific research institutes, including: Burnham Institute for Medical Research, Salk Institute for Biological Studies, La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology or The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI).

Eligible High School Students meet the following criteria:
- are San Diego County residents and have completed their most recent semester at a public or private high school within San Diego County
- are at least 16 years of age by June 10, 2010
- have successfully completed at least one year each of high school level chemistry and biology
- have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
- are able to commit to 40 hours/week, five days per week (daytime) for the duration of the program
- are able to provide their own transportation
