Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology and Medical device companies all take considerable risks in the development of product. It goes through proof of concept, clinical trials, pilot manufacturing, quality, final manufacturing, FDA and regulatory approval.

The final hurdle to getting a product to the patient is price and reimbursement. But is it a final hurdle or should companies start thinking earlier? Pricing of a product is an art and science requiring understanding of the customers’ willingness to pay. But at early stages, if a company is managing valuations and fund raising, an early look at potential pricing is important. Reimbursement and coverage of products are a key strategic decision that are made by government and private payors.
