Associate Manager of Regulatory Policy

Position Summary:

The Associate Manager of Regulatory Policy at Biocom California’s Washington D.C office will assist the Senior Director of Federal Policy and Government Affairs with all regulatory matters and help develop and implement Biocom California’s regulatory policy agenda. The primary focus of Biocom California’s regulatory work is with health regulatory agencies. 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor, identify, and analyze relevant regulatory issues and documents that impact Biocom California’s public policy and regulatory agenda.
  • Write summaries of relevant regulatory issues and documents as directed.
  • Engage with Biocom California’s membership to get feedback on federal agencies’ rulemaking documents as directed.
  • Work with the Senior Director of Federal Policy and Government Affairs on the drafting and submission of regulatory comment letters.
  • Monitor and write summaries of congressional hearings featuring agency officials and industry representatives, as directed.
  • Manage Biocom California’s Regulatory Affairs Committee (RAC), including committee membership recruitment and engagement, content setting and programming for meetings.
  • Brief other Biocom California committees on relevant regulatory matters as directed.
  • Work with the Senior Director of Federal Policy and Government Affairs to develop and maintain relationships with appropriate federal regulatory personnel, coalition partners, and patient advocacy groups.
  • Create content for and manage Biocom California’s regulatory and reimbursement newsletter.
  • Write regulatory updates for other Biocom California’s publications as directed, including the Biocom California Newsletter and Public Policy Newsletter, as well as Biocom California’s website and social media.
  • Assist the Senior Director of Federal Policy and Government Affairs with the organization of virtual and in-person regulatory briefings or events to educate California members on federal regulatory issues.
  • Assist the Senior Director of Federal Policy and Government Affairs with the organization of high-level events in Washington DC.
  • Attend relevant advisory committee meetings, federal agency meetings, coalition meetings, issue briefings, and events, as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required; Master’s degree in a relevant field a plus.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working in the health care or science sector for a federal agency, congressional committee, trade association, industry, law or consulting firm, research organization, or relevant entity.
  • Knowledge of executive branch procedures and regulatory policies required.
  • Knowledge of life science regulatory policies and prior experience with the regulatory comment process a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in research and analysis.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills, and strict attention to detail.
  • Ability to motivate the membership to participate and become engaged in public policy initiatives and committees.
  • Ability to interact professionally and independently with internal and external stakeholders and maintain good working relationships with others in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Ability to take initiative and produce results under general supervision.
  • Proficient in communicating the mission of the association and its benefits to prospective members.
  • Must be available for some evening and early morning events and limited travel.
