Business Development Manager

Summary:
The Business Development Manager will primarily be responsible for membership recruitment and promotion of membership benefits, including the Biocom California Purchasing Group’s supplier programs and Biocom’s other key initiatives in the greater Los Angeles Region. The Business Development Manager will work with Biocom’s Sr. Director of Membership and the LA Executive Director to develop long term relationships with regional members, industry stakeholder and to ensure appropriate representation of Biocom California benefits to the region’s membership base.  This position will work closely to the LA office to support the region’s membership retention efforts, assisting with all Biocom Los Angeles activities including events, member services, and member outreach as well as performing their business development duties.  

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage and assist with Biocom LA sales efforts, including driving member usage of existing supplier products and services working in coordination with Biocom Purchasing Group suppliers;
  • Partner with members and Biocom Purchasing Group to identify and evaluate contracts that deliver cost savings opportunities to drive ROI;
  • Engage with all levels of member organizations, including C-suite, Human Resources, Business Development, Government Relations, Facilities/EH&S, Procurement and Supply Chain, Scientists and others to ensure members are aware of all membership benefits and drive member engagement/participation in all of Biocom California’s membership benefits and key initiatives;
  • Represent Biocom California and Biocom Purchasing Group at events;
  • Responsible for achieving budgeted revenue goals for membership, Purchasing Group sales, and retention for the region;
  • Collaborate with internal sales and marketing teams to develop collateral and also with LA team to support sales and retention efforts;
  • Lead regional market and data analysis, leveraging SalesForce as a key sales enabling technology, supplemented by other CRM tools and databases; while also working closely with head of the LA office to prioritize and track membership base trends, track and lead outreach to current members to support engagement/retention efforts, and ensure timely and accurate updating of customer records internally and externally with Purchasing Group Suppliers; and
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, a scientific field or relevant discipline is required; and
  • Life Sciences background is preferred.

Work Experience

  • 5-7 years of professional experience in business development or professional concept selling, preferably in a Life Science related industry.

Key Skillset

  • Experience in or selling into the various stakeholders in a commercial setting, preferably in Life Sciences within the Los Angeles area;
  • Self-starter possessing a sense of urgency and exceptional commitment to a high level of customer service in order to provide best-in-class experiences to the members is required;
  • Excellent verbal, written, communication and influencing skills with all levels in an organization;
  • Demonstrate the ability to build and maintain relationships with members;
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills, with an attention to detail and ability to meet and manage tight deadlines and competing obligations;
  • Ability to speak effectively in public meetings and while presenting presentations;
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and credibility at all times; and
  • Must be able to work in a flexible, dynamic environment and be a team player.

Equipment and applications

  • High proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Salesforce (or any other CRM system); and
  • Working knowledge of all office equipment such as computers/laptops and printers.
