Business Development Manager

Position Summary:  

Biocom California is hiring a Business Development Manager to join our Capital Development team.  This unique role lies at the intersection between innovative life science companies and the venture capital community, and we seek a talented individual who can successfully navigate the life science investment world to assist our members in their fundraising activities.  Reporting to the Director of Capital Development, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for the expansion and management of new and existing business relationships within the life science investment and startup communities, and for driving engagement with investment tools Biocom California has developed to assist our members.  Ideal candidates are highly motivated to leverage and expand their existing relationships within the life science investor community to deliver maximum value to our members.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Increase adoption, utilization and value of Biocom California’s Capital Development member benefits and Venture Hub platform. 
  • Identify, qualify, and meet with prospective partners, venture capitalists, angel investors, family offices, and other life science investors, engaging them on Biocom California’s Capital Development programs. 
  • Cultivate and manage existing partnerships, ensuring a positive experience aligned with the values and goals of Biocom California. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with member companies relative to their current funding and service needs. 
  • Conduct voice of customer discussions to determine member needs to inform program development, identify gaps and ensure alignment of resources. 
  • Work internally with Capital Development Program Management to recruit, promote and source participants for program activities. 
  • Develop knowledge base related to public funding mechanisms (grants, SBIR, State initiatives) for the benefit our membership companies. 
  • Draft, coordinate, and prepare briefing materials and presentations for use with member executives and internal stakeholders. 
  • Assist with Capital Development related events planning and execution. 
  • Document member engagement around Capital Development initiatives in Salesforce. 
  • Other duties, as assigned.   

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Life Science or related field is required 
  • MBA Preferred 
  • Five (5) years of experience in partnership, alliance and/or business development management. 
  • Experience in an investment firm is a plus. 
  • Experience with Salesforce (or similar CRM systems). 
  • Experience with deal diligence, capitalization structuring and company valuation preferred. 
  • Knowledge of the investment process for life science companies preferred. 
  • Show initiative to be self-motivated, innovative, and an independent thinker. 
  • Ability to effectively work with C-level executive at our member companies and beyond. 
  • Excellent follow-up and follow-through skills. 
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, and prioritizing skills to meet numerous scheduled and unforeseen requests and deadlines. 
  • Ability to multi-task and deal with various interruptions throughout the day, while still performance necessary tasks. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels inside and outside of the organization. 
  • Effective skills in written and oral communication. 
  • Exhibit a high level of handling confidential materials. 
  • Ability to work independently and still be a team player. 
  • High proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, TEAMS and Salesforce 

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in the Bay Area area is $90,000 – $135,000.  The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education etc.  Biocom California is a multi-state and multi-regional employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states and regions.
