Executive Director, Los Angeles 

Position Summary:  

The Executive Director for the Los Angeles office will work with Biocom California’s Vice President of Strategic Operations and other senior leadership teams to define and execute the Greater Los Angeles strategic plan, which includes:

  1. Regional policy efforts
  2. Membership recruitment and retention
  3. Workforce development
  4. Capital development programs
  5. Programming and events

The Executive Director will act as a subject matter expert for the Greater Los Angeles Life Science industry to continue developing the local Life Science ecosystem.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead Biocom California expansion efforts in the Greater Los Angeles area, developing strategic goals and deepening strong relationships with key strategic partners from the public and private sector, academia, and other collaborating NPO’s, and forging new partnerships;   
  • Manage, directly and in matrix organization, a team of professionals within the Los Angeles office to ensure key strategic, tactical and business initiatives are executed; 
  • Partner with Senior Staff to create and communicate membership benefits to the Los Angeles market as well as drive attendance at industry supporting events, formative committees, and other engagement opportunities; 
  • Create a successful environment for sales and retention objectives around membership, sponsorship, and purchasing group efforts; 
  • Deepen and continue to develop local relationships in advocacy and public policy as the face of Biocom California;  
  • Deepen and continue to develop relationships with the investor community, including local VCs, high network individuals and family offices; 
  • Lead, in coordination with the Biocom California’s membership team, business development activities in the Los Angeles region; 
  • Develop and coach the regional team to drive peak performance on all cluster development support initiatives and manage an operational budget consistent with fiscally prudent growth. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field is required. 
  • Minimum of 10 years in a leadership role with expertise in business development, collaborations, and partnerships.  
  • Minimum of 10 years of Executive experience within Bioscience cluster and/or Greater Los Angeles County commercial markets;  
  • Knowledge of Public Policy and Workforce Development is a plus; and 
  • Strong background in public speaking and social media. 
  • Familiarity and ability to work in a heavy matrixed environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a complex array of projects, operational and strategic goals, and relationships with internal and external partners; 
  • Proven track record of creating value and revenue for an organization while maintaining fiscal responsivity; 
  • Strong ability to foster relationships with local legislators, heads of academia, and business leaders throughout the greater Southern California region is a definite plus; 
  • Excellent written, public speaking skills, and ability to speak with media/reporters (broadcast and print); 
  • Must exhibit a high level of confidentiality; 
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills and ability to meet tight deadlines; and 
  • Be a team player. 
  • Must be able to work in a hybrid environment – 3 days in office, 2 days remote.

The anticipated base salary range for candidates who will work in the Los Angeles area is $185,000- $210,000.  The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience within the industry, education, etc.  Biocom California is a multi-state and multi-regional employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states and regions.
