Sales and Business Development Manager

Position Summary:  

This position will be responsible for membership sales, including prospecting, pipeline development, presentations to potential members, and closing new memberships. The Sales and Business Development Manager will collaborate with Biocom’s Executive Director of Sales and the Senior Director of Member Success to build long-term industry relationships and promote the value proposition of Biocom California, which includes our industry resources (savings through our purchasing group), Capital Development (support for fundraising initiatives), networking events, policy, and workforce programs in the Washington area.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary liaison responsible for building and expanding the membership base in Washington, driving collaboration, fostering partnerships, and identifying growth opportunities within the sector.
  • Develop a robust pipeline of new member prospects, leading all outreach and follow-up actions to onboard new Biocom California members.
  • Deliver compelling value messages for all five pillars of the Biocom offering: Policy & Advocacy, Workforce Development, Networking, Capital Development, and CORE purchasing group offerings.
  • Achieve budgeted metrics related to a) new members, b) new member contract adoption (from our purchasing group offering), and c) revenue targets.
  • Assist prospective members in identifying and evaluating our CORE purchasing group contracts to deliver cost savings opportunities.
  • Engage with all professional level of our prospective members, including C-suite executives, Human Resources, Business Development, Government Relations, Facilities/EH&S, Procurement and Supply Chain, and Scientists.
  • Represent Biocom at networking events, fostering meaningful discussions to drive membership sales.
  • Collaborate with regional team members on lead sharing, prospect development, and achieving regional goals.
  • Use Salesforce™ regularly as a key sales enabling tool, ensuring timely and accurate updates of customer records.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Member Success:

  • Build and manage member relationships through regular communications with current members in WA, ensuring they are aware of and utilizing all membership benefits.
  • Conduct informational sessions or webinars to educate members on available benefits, ensuring they fully understand how to take advantage of offerings.
  • Collaborate with other Biocom departments to address the unique needs of WA members, ensuring seamless service and communication.
  • Collaborate with the member success team to increase engagement, retention, and CORE revenue.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or a similar is required. Life Sciences background is preferred.
  • Five (5)- Seven (7) years of professional experience in business development or professional concept selling, preferably in a Life Science related industry.
  • Experience in or selling into the various stakeholders in the Life Science market, preferably in the Washington Area.
  • Knowledge of the market and companies within the Life Science Industry in the Washington Area.
  • Possess a sense of urgency and exceptional commitment to a high level of sales achievement and customer service in order to provide best-in-class experiences to prospects and members.
  • Excellent verbal, written, communication and influencing skills with all levels in an organization.
  • Demonstrate the ability to build a strong prospect pipeline and build relationships.
  • Strong organizational, detail oriented, time-management, and problem-solving skills and ability to meet and manage tight deadlines and competing obligations.
  • Ability to speak effectively in public meetings.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and credibility.
  • Must be able to work in a flexible, dynamic environment and be a team player.
  • High proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Salesforce (and any other CRM system).

The anticipated total target cash compensation salary, including base and incentives for this position ranges from $130,000 – $150,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education etc. Biocom California is a multi-state and multi-regional employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states and regions.
