On Monday, December 7, a new California Legislature was sworn in. The state constitution requires that the Assembly and Senate convene in person, so the Assembly was sworn in at the Golden 1 Center (the use of the basketball arena was donated), while the Senate convened in the Senate Chambers in a socially distant manner.

As reported earlier, the makeup of the Legislature will be largely unchanged in numbers going into the 2021-22 session. In the Senate, Democrats will enjoy a 30-9 majority (with a special election to be called in a safe Democratic seat to replace now LA County Supervisor Holly Mitchell), and a 61-8-1 majority in the Assembly.
