The 2019 San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering was just as exciting and successful as ever, thanks to the Biocom member community, and San Diego community as a whole. This event has been a fantastic way for San Diego to celebrate and appreciate the STEM industries right here at home, while also inspiring and encouraging the next generation of San Diego to continue to grow these industries!

Our kickoff event, Expo Day, which took place on Saturday, March 2nd, was a hit – with more than 17,100 attendees despite a day full of rain! Petco Park was packed full of businesses, nonprofits, and educational organizations all united with the goal to teach and inspire the youth of San Diego in all things science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). The week continued with an exciting lineup of over 90 STEM Week events – our busiest STEM Week ever! Attendance at all events was full, and we had the best showing of volunteers we’ve ever seen.

This event has been a testament to how strongly San Diego embraces our STEM industries and STEM education. Our goal is to make sure that this Festival becomes a staple to San Diego life, and we feel 2019 brought us one step closer to that goal. We could not have done it without all of your support! A special thank you shout out goes to our Presenting Sponsor, the Illumina Foundation. This success could not be achieved without their dedication and support, and for that we are so grateful! Thank you also to all of the other Biocom member sponsors: Celgene, Conatus Pharmaceuticals, Corning Life Sciences, Delawie, Ferring, Intercept Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Intrexon, Lilly, LPA Design Studios, Pfizer Inc, Point Loma Nazarene University, Prometheus Laboratories Inc., Quidel Corporation, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and Vertex Pharmaceuticals.

More fun data and recaps on this year’s Festival will be released in the coming months!

Help us to keep the momentum into the 2020 Festival, and keep 90% of the Festival’s events free and open to the public! Our goal is to inspire every child to become tomorrow’s leaders in discovery, no matter their background. For that reason, we care about keeping these events free and open to the public. In 2019, we hope to impact even more students throughout the year. Can we count on your support? Consider making a recurring donation of $10 a month to continue supporting our youth on their STEM education journeys throughout the school year! Donate here.
