About Us

Biocom is the largest, most experienced leader and advocate for California’s life science sector. We work on behalf of 825 members to drive public policy, build an enviable network of industry leaders, create access to capital, introduce cutting-edge STEM education programs, and create robust value-driven purchasing programs.


Founded in 1995 in San Diego, Biocom provides the strongest public voice to research institutions and companies that fuel the local and state-wide economy.  Our goal is simple: to help our members produce novel solutions that improve the human condition. Biocom’s skilled team of more than 35 staff works alongside industry, government, investors, academia and other stakeholders to accomplish key goals including talent development, cross-industry collaboration and a vibrant financing climate. Through its wide range of initiatives and 75 events per year, Biocom cultivates a climate that fosters growth and productivity in all areas of the life science sector, accelerating success on a global level.


In addition to its San Diego headquarters, Biocom operates a core office serving the Los Angeles market, satellite offices in Washington, D.C. and Tokyo, and has a continuous presence in Sacramento via staff, a 501c3 foundation, and contract lobbyist.  Membership benefits apply to biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, genomics and diagnostics companies of all sizes, as well as to research universities and institutes, clinical research organizations, investors and service providers.

Legal Status

Biocom is a 501(c)(6) organization representing more than 825 member companies, service providers and research institutions.


Biocom Purchasing Group Inc. is a wholly-owned, for profit subsidiary of Biocom.


The Biocom Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that serves as a bridge between learning institutions and life science companies to build comprehensive education initiatives that advance science literacy.


California Biotechnology Foundation (CBF) is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to promoting a greater understanding of the life science industry in California. Through implementation of outreach and education programs, the mission of CBF is to inform and educate the public on new advances and discoveries within the states' biotechnology community as well as to increase awareness of the life science industry in California among policymakers, opinion leaders and other stakeholders.


The Biocom PAC is a non-partisan California state political action committee sponsored by Biocom to fundraise and make political contributions to elect non-federal candidates and promote issues that will improve the environment for business and innovation for the life science industry in Southern California. Contributions to the Biocom PAC (CA ID #963088) are voluntary and are NOT deductible as charitable contributions for federal or state income tax purposes.
