What Precision Medicine Needs to Succeed:  Collaborations to Deliver Clinical Utility Across the Omics Spectrum

Join us on May 18th as we hear from Corina Shtir, PhD, Head of Precision Medicine at Thermo Fisher Scientific as she discusses how Thermo Fisher Scientific is working on integrating precision medicine solutions across the omics spectrum through collaborations with academia, bio-pharma, clinicians, and the scientific community to revolutionize the way we prevent, detect, treat, and monitor disease.  The integration of a wide range of technologies (cell therapy, next generation sequencing (NGS), genotyping, biobanking, mass spectrometry, synthetic biology, among others) will allow us to better characterize the molecular profile of an individual, and therefore accelerate the development of next generation diagnoses, therapies, and health/disease monitoring.

Following Dr. Shtir's presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to hear a pediatric oncology case study from Timothy Triche, PhD, MD, Children's Hospital of Los Angeles

Cancer in children is fundamentally different than in adults. Diagnosis is often challenging, for lack of tumor-specific morphology, yet treatment is predicated on specific diagnosis. Most patients are treated on standard protocols that require a specific diagnosis, often stratified based on risk. Relapsed patients generally fare poorly, but would likely benefit from genomic analysis of their tumors. We have developed a comprehensive targeted NGS research panel designed specifically to identify genomic features that match existing targeted therapeutic agents. This is the only comprehensive research gene panel for pediatric cancer that encompasses diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic targets based on both DNA and RNA in one comprehensive next generation sequencing (NGS) assay.
