Biocom executives along with eight Biocom member companies traveled to Yokohama, Japan, October 10th – 12th for BioJapan, Asia's Premier Partnering Event for the Global Biotechnology Industry. Biocom hosted the California Pavilion along with six Biocom Member Sponsors, Algomedix, Connect, NF Corporation, Thereaputics, Scientist.com, and UCSD. BioJapan has played an important role in facilitating interaction between Japanese and global companies/organizations and stimulating new business opportunities for almost two decades.  Top business development, licensing, and alliance management professionals, R&D personnel, and biotech company executives from around the world gathered for the 20th iteration of BioJapan.

BioJapan had record attendance this year with over 900 organizations from around 30 countries and held over 9,000 business meetings over the course of the three days.

Biocom is grateful for the partnerships and support we received from our members who helped us build a bridge between life science companies in Japan and California, as well as create greater awareness of opportunities in Japan for our members.

Highlights from our members in attendance:

Algomedix found the BioJapan meeting to be very worthwhile since we were able to arrange productive meetings with a number of mid- and large size Japanese pharmaceutical companies that we previously had not contacted.  In addition, through the easy to use partnering system, we were also able to learn about new technologies developed by a number of university and research institutes involved in a wide range of licensing activities.  I appreciated the chance to be able to give a talk on our TRPA1 program for chronic pain. - Jeffrey M. Herz, Ph.D., President and CEO, Algomedix, Inc.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to Biocom for inviting Scientist.com to be a part of their Pavilion at BioJapan for a second straight year! Scientist.com enjoyed consistent traffic and secured a significant number of leads from our three days spent in the Biocom Pavilion and participating in the partnering event at BioJapan.  Exhibiting at BioJapan as a standalone company would be cost prohibitive for Scientist.com.  Being able to share the costs among several San Diego companies all underneath the BIOCOM umbrella, made our participation possible and enabled further expansion for our company in the Japanese market.  - Arne J. Brandon, Chief Commercial Officer, Scientist.com

The trip and experience at BioJapan was all worth it. I had great meetings lined up, new contacts were created and I received a lot of help and insight into the Asian markets from a knowledgeable Biocom team. Our liquid biopsy technology was a hit and fits the Asian market perfectly. Thank you Biocom for facilitating the trip. - Rolf Müller, CEO, Biofluidica
