Last month, Biocom Bay Area held the inaugural Commercialization Boot Camp, in partnership with BioSupply Management Alliance (BSMA), the Biomedical Manufacturing Network, City of Fremont, Biomedical Engineering Society San Francisco Chapter, and Cal State East Bay. This day-long intensive seminar brought together mid- to upper-level scientists, engineers, and executive-level individuals from startup companies seeking to gain insight into the steps and strategies required to bring a new biomedical product to market.

The four modules provided high-level discussions and interactive activities related to Product Design, Strategic Forecasting Methods, Piloting and Commercializing new life science technologies. Our presenters represented different areas of the life science industry, with Andy Witky from Code Name Collective, Lori Lai from Talis Biomedical Corporation, Nelli Theyel from Genentech, and Mike Zuerlein formally from Illumina. These experts offered their expertise on the different strategies and methods around product commercialization, from start to finish.

Attendees were able to test their new knowledge in small breakout exercises, and had ample time to engage with the other attendees and expand their bay area networks.

This inaugural boot camp was a product of collaboration and designed to provide entrepreneurs and new executives with the tools they need to get their ideas off the ground.  The first of many to come, Biocom and our partners hope to continue to build on this program and bring the life science community together.
