Keeping California at the cutting edge

DeviceFest & Digital Health Conference

With digital health and consumer-driven data now at the forefront of healthcare, we have reached a convergence of the medtech and digital health industries. Biocom’s DeviceFest & Digital Health Conference focuses on supporting the medical device and diagnostics industries by giving our members access to key decision makers and thought leaders who have expanded their businesses and increased exposure for their products. This year’s DeviceFest & Digital Health Conference will be held on Wednesday, August 28th in Southern California.

Now in its 12th year, this conference features fundamental shifts that have occurred within the healthcare industry due to the rapid advancement of today’s innovative technology. Through a blend of panel discussions, keynote presentations and case studies, members connect with key players and thought leaders who can help accelerate their goals.

Setting Members Up For Success

Biocom strives to stay a step ahead through initiatives that reflect the state of discovery in each region and the innovation of our members within them. On August 27th at our Biocom Bay Area office, we’ll co-host “Turning Genomics into Better Health” alongside our partner, Xconomy. The evening discussion will focus on the hype, hope, perils, and promise of the genomics era with Bay Area scientists, entrepreneurs, investors, and other health experts.

On September 11th, our Capital Development team will host a Kaiser Permanente Day. Representatives from Kaiser Permanente will be at Biocom to meet with biotech and medical device companies in all stages of product development in an informational setting. They welcome opportunities to discuss devices, diagnostics and pain management solutions with selected members.

To discuss an event or program you’d like to see in your area, send a message to one of our regional offices.

Making your mark on our future

Committees with a Passion for the Cause

Your Biocom membership makes you a part of a community vying for world-leading innovation. Biocom’s portfolio of member-driven committees spans several verticals that provide unique platforms to discuss industry trends and prepare for tomorrow’s challenges. Our subset of technology-focused committees include Artificial Intelligence, Big Data/Bioinformatics, Digital Health, Intellectual Property, and LA Startup Resources.

Biocom invites members to participate from every region we serve—either in person or by phone—and is constantly amazed by the innovative ideas our committee members bring to the table. Topics addressed greatly inform event programming, giving you a chance to bring to life community-driven initiatives that promote networking and partnership within your life science vertical. Committees are a great way for members to discuss specific topics related to their mission with like-minded individuals in a relaxed and productive environment.

Regional Policy Focuses

Biocom’s public policy team drives advocacy and public policy initiatives that address regional issues that can promote or hinder innovation. Our member committees determine positions to encourage public officials to pass legislation that is positive to the California life science industry, while working to defeat proposals that would be detrimental. In San Diego, members recently had the opportunity to join a Legislative Roundtable to meet with the City of Carlsbad’s Chief Innovation Officer to discuss how local government can support industry growth through areas like housing, transportation, workforce attraction, and permitting. Members in Los Angeles were invited to join elected officials, regulators, and their staff members for an open house and tour of the new life science multi-tenant space, HATCHlabs. And in the Bay Area, members are invited to join us on October 1st for a Mayoral Roundtable for the cities of Fremont, Newark, Union City, and Milpitas. View all of our policy priorities here.

Scaling with dexterity

Strategic Company Growth

Your Biocom membership connects you to catalysts for growth and strategic scaling. Members inform our savings programs, which help companies scale quicker and make better use of their resources through competitive prices on products and services paramount to their missions, regardless of organizational size or sector. Biocom also partners with organizations that benefit members through informative and vetted market research.

This month, Biocom will co-host “IPO Pitfalls & Creative Funding Solutions for Life Science Companies” in San Diego. The event—just one of many similar seminars put on annually throughout the state— will feature David Diamond, Life Science & Technology Practice Leader for the top-10 National Accounting Services provider, as he leads a discussion on ways that CEOs and CFOs can avoid IPO pitfalls. And for those not looking to go public, they’ll learn how to be both flexible and creative with the types of investors and investment arrangements they consider.

Startup Solutions and the Next Wave of Innovation

Biocom believes startups represent a daring brand of innovation. In addition, a strong early-stage presence indicates a healthy life science environment and contributes greatly to raising the profile of life science regions and sub-clusters.

Last month, Biocom wrapped up nominations for the 3rd annual Catalyst Awards which will honor leaders under 40 in the Bay Area, Los Angeles and San Diego. The awards recognize rising academics, entrepreneurs, investors, corporate leaders and business advisers who are making their mark on California’s life science community.

Biocom members between the ages of 21 and 39 can also network with like-minded peers to grow both professionally and personally at our next Life Science Young Leaders event on September 11th.
