At our San Diego Facilities Committee meeting on April 25th, Biocom CA’s members recommended a support position on the La Jolla Innovation Center, a project proposed by UC San Diego to redevelop a parcel at the corner of La Jolla Village Drive and Villa La Jolla.

UC San Diego is proposing to build a new Gensler-designed facility that will house several programs from UC San Diego Health, UC San Diego School of Medicine, and UC San Diego Extension serving students, patients, and the community. Located at the old Rock Bottom Brewery site, it will include 110,000 square feet of office and educational space, a ground-floor café accessible to the public, and 275 parking spaces.

Committee members had a robust discussion including all possible impacts of the project: height, traffic, safety, and aesthetics. In the end a majority voted to support the project.

Biocom CA will submit a letter to the UC Board of Regents indicating our support.
