On April 2nd, Biocom CEO Joe Panetta joined San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and other business representatives from the area to address the public on our members’ efforts to combat COVID-19.

Joe’s remarks focused on the nature of the life science industry in San Diego to work collaboratively; that companies and organizations who would usually be competitors are all aligned on one goal: defeating COVID-19. He talked about our member companies who are developing tests, therapeutics, and vaccines. Finally, information was shared about Biocom’s coronavirus resource center, which is providing industry-specific company resources, and connecting organizations in need of donations of PPE and other equipment with companies that have supplies to share.

To date, Mayor Faulconer has organized three press conferences focused on our industry’s work around the virus and has taken two tours of member companies specifically focused on developing treatments and vaccines for the disease.

"California, and especially the San Diego biotechnology community, is leading the worldwide fight against COVID-19,” said Joe Panetta. “The coronavirus has ignited the research, medical device, and biotechnology community in ways that no pandemic or medical mystery has before. The community has also stepped up with donations of personal protective equipment and supplies for our frontline healthcare workers. We are in this together, and there is a collective spirit of determination to change the course of this global pandemic.”
