Biocom California was delighted to host Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-53) for a virtual roundtable with our members on Tuesday, February 16. Congresswoman Jacobs is serving her first term in the U.S. House of Representatives and represents California’s 53rd congressional district in San Diego County. She replaced former Rep. Susan Davis who had held the seat for twenty years.

Rep. Jacobs comes equipped with experience at the State Department and as a foreign policy adviser for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. She serves as the Freshman Representative to the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, and sits on the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Armed Services Committee.

The event exceeded full capacity and participants came from both biotechnology and medical device companies, large and small. The roundtable was a great opportunity for members to provide insight into the work they do and share their successes and challenges related to a variety of issues, including the research and development of covid-19 and non-covid-19 products, the importance of intellectual property protections, capital and NIH funding, supply chain, drug pricing, and telehealth issues.

Rep. Jacobs was very receptive and engaged members on the production and distribution of covid-19 products. She said that new technologies and innovation will be a priority for her, along childcare and poverty.
