On April 17th San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chairman Greg Cox announced the formation of a regional task force to plan for the safe gradual reopening of San Diego’s economy. The San Diego Economic Recovery Advisory Group, as it will be called, includes designees from San Diego’s major industries, labor, and those especially impacted by public health orders, including tourism and restaurants. Biocom’s CEO Joe Panetta joins the group to represent the interests of the area’s life science companies.

Mayor Faulconer announced staggered reopening of some public spaces on the evening of April 20th. At the same time, local leaders pledged to follow public health guidelines and the framework set by Governor Newsom for any easing of distancing protocols currently in place.

The group had its first meeting on Monday and plans to meet twice per week for at least the next month. As conversation shifts to reopening economies, we appreciate the opportunity to engage in local planning and policy measures to support our member companies returning to their labs and offices safely.
