On December 7, 2020, the Legislature for the 2021-22 session was sworn in. Since then, legislators have been formulating bill packages prior to the February 19, 2021 bill introduction deadline. So far, about 25% of the bills expected to be introduced this year have crossed the desk of the Chief Clerk.

Among the few bills introduced so far that will be of interest to the industry are two bills that were introduced last year but not pursued due to strict bill limits imposed as the Legislature worked in shortened sessions to deal with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

AB 70 is a measure that would mandate the state establish standards for gene synthesis providers. AB 97 is a bill that states its purpose will be to make insulin “more affordable for Californians,” but has no substance beyond that at this time.

As Biocom California takes positions on state legislation, you can find those bills on our State Advocacy page.
