Connecting students with STEAM opportunities

Looking for an Opportunity to Make an Impact?
COVID-19 has presented unique challenges for our schools and educators, and we would like to invite you to join us in supporting teachers and students in our community.

The San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering wants to bring STEAM Professionals (YOU) to our communities’ classrooms (virtually, of course!)

Classroom Visits:
We want to give you the chance to spend 30 minutes virtually visiting a San Diego County classroom, explaining your job, and answering students’ questions.

Your impact is 3-fold:

  1. This is your opportunity to share your expertise with a classroom for 30 minutes
  2. You’ll provide students a real-world example of someone who earned a position that they can aspire to someday hold
  3. You’ll offer support to the teaching community while also providing diverse learning experiences for their students

We have a real opportunity to make an impact and we need our community (YOU) to step up to make that possible.

Here’s our commitment to you:

  1. We’ll make the process simple, easy, and streamlined. You’ll just need a computer, internet connection, and a willingness and openness to share
  2. We’ll give you a template lesson plan/suggested talking points to follow, where you’ll insert your own content
  3. You’ll feel a real sense of fulfillment and you’ll make a real difference in the lives of dozens of students, their teachers, and their parents

Sign up to be a virtual guest speaker in a California classroom!

We also invite STEAM professionals to join our #STEAMTEAM by submitting videos describing their jobs and companies, doing experiments, or providing virtual tours of their workplaces.

Submit your videos via Dropbox. Some examples of questions our #STEAMTEAM members can answer include:

  1. Name, Title, Company
  2. What does your company do/what problem does it solve?
  3. What you do at the company?
    1. And/or: Describe your current job in three words.
  4. What are two top skills you use in your current job?
  5. Provide a brief snapshot of a typical day at your job.
  6. What makes your job cool?
  7. What are you passionate about and have you been able to incorporate that passion into your day?
