Tomotaka Goji, Ph.D.

Tomotaka Goji is the Co-founder, Managing Partner, CEO, President, and Representative Director of The University of Tokyo Edge Capital Partners (UTEC), as well as Chairman of the Japan Venture Capital Association (JVCA). Since founding UTEC in 2004, he has raised and managed six funds totaling about JPY 130 billion, leading investments that resulted in 20 IPOs and 22 major exits, primarily through M&A. He authored Japan’s Limited Partnership Act for Investment while at MITI, laying the legal foundation for the country’s venture capital industry, before leaving government service to implement it through UTEC. His research focuses on data science–driven analysis of startup success and the role of academic research. He holds an LLB and a PhD in data science from the University of Tokyo, and an MBA from Stanford.
