Adjunct Professor, Division of Hematology, Department of Pediatrics, UCSF
Dr. Fung is an Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Hematology at the University of California, San Francisco. A registered dietitian with a doctorate in Nutritional Science from UC Berkeley, her research primarily focuses on nutrition, physical activity, and bone health in individuals with hemoglobinopathies. She has authored well over 100 peer-reviewed publications and co-authored the first comprehensive guidebook on nutrition for patients with thalassemia. She currently leads an NHLBI-funded multicenter clinical trial examining the effects of zinc supplementation on bone health in sickle cell disease. As the Director of the Summer Student Research Program at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland since 2014, she is passionate about equipping youth, especially those underrepresented in science, towards successful careers in the health sciences.
