City of Palo Alto’s New Mayor and Vice Mayor
Palo Alto’s City Council elected former Vice Mayor Greer Stone as Mayor and Council Member Ed Lauing as Vice Mayor for the coming calendar year. Biocom California looks forward to continuing to work with the city in advocating on behalf of our life science members in the region.
Bill Introduced to Streamline Housing Development
State Senator Scott Wiener introduced a bill in January to cut San Francisco’s red tape on coastal development. The proposed legislation would not only expedite the approval process for new housing but also maintain the Coastal Commission’s guard over natural resources.

Biopharma Career Immersion for Underrepresented STEM Students
Santa Clara University is hosting the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL) eXperience program on campus this summer, from June 23 to June 29, 2024. The NIIMBL eXperience @ SCU program is an exclusive in-person, all expenses paid immersion program designed to inspire and support college students exploring careers in biotechnology and biopharmaceutical manufacturing. It focuses on community college students and freshmen and sophomores from underrepresented communities. Students will visit prototype manufacturing sites, attend panels, and have access to exemplars, mentors, and professional development support.
