Biocom California Unveils Drug Pricing Infographic
Biocom California has developed an infographic to help members visualize the new drug pricing provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), including Medicare negotiation, Medicare Part D benefit redesign, and patient out-of-pocket caps. Take Action Against New TRIPS IP Waiver
The World Trade Organization (WTO) has until December 17 to decide whether to waive intellectual property (IP) protections for COVID-19 therapeutics and diagnostics. This is a step further than the IP waiver the WTO approved earlier this year to remove IP rights for COVID-19 vaccines. Please help us protect IP rights for our industry by sending a message to the Administration and Congress to urge them to advocate against this expanded waiver.
Midterm Elections
Early election results are coming in, but many races won’t be decided until November 15, the last day vote-by-mail ballots can be counted. Outcomes are required to be submitted by each county election official to the state by December 9. You can sign up for our policy newsletter and watch our Twitter page for relevant election updates.
South San Francisco City Council
On October 12 the South San Francisco City Council adopted a new General Plan and Climate Action Plan, which will guide the strategic direction of the city for the next 20 years.
San Mateo County Transit District
The San Mateo County Transit District Board of Directors unanimously appointed April Chan to be its next General Manager/CEO, effective November 1.
Oakland State of the City Address
Outgoing Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf highlighted increased housing stock and the city’s cease fire strategy to reduce crime in her last state of the city address.
Santa Clara County CEO Appointment
Santa Clara County appointed a new CEO in October.

2023 Life Science Young Leaders Fellowship Application
The Biocom California Institute 2023 Life Science Young Leaders Fellowship is now open. The fellowship aims to provide college graduates/senior students who are first-generation or from historically underrepresented groups with exposure to the life sciences community and further their relationships and understanding of career options in this vibrant sector. Over six months, fellows will receive resume and interview coaching, have networking opportunities, be connected with a mentor, and receive a certificate of completion.
