California and D.C. Election Results: New Faces and Key Changes
A central theme of the 2024 general election is “change.” Former President Donald Trump is returning to the White House, Congressman Adam Schiff will become California’s junior senator, and a Republican incumbent lost re-election in the House of Representatives, with two races still uncalled. These shifts could significantly impact House leadership, as future vacancies may challenge the Republican’s ability to sustain its narrow majority. In the State Legislature, Democrats held their overwhelming supermajorities in both houses. A former life science researcher, Dr. Darshana Patel, was victorious in the 76th Assembly District. The new State Legislature will have at least 30 new members, a stunning 25 percent turnover in one year. In local races, all San Diego incumbents were victorious; Daniel Lurie will be San Francisco’s next mayor; and two new city councilmembers will be seated in Los Angeles. We will keep you abreast of what all of this means for our life science industry as more unfolds. Read our full report on election results.
