Building Electrification in Carlsbad’s Climate Action Plan
Carlsbad Planning Commission will consider an update to the city’s Climate Action Plan at its meeting on October 2. Biocom California will attend to speak on a potential building electrification policy and submitted a letter to the city outlining our concerns earlier this month. If your company has operations in Carlsbad, consider weighing in by commenting in writing or in person to the Planning Commission for the October 2 meeting.
Measure C Proponents Win Legal Victory
In 2020, over 65% of San Diego voters approved Measure C, a hotel tax for convention center expansion, homelessness and street repairs. Initially thought to need a two-thirds majority, recent court rulings state it only required a simple majority. After four years of litigation, the court affirmed the measure’s legality. An appeal is still possible, but supporters are eager for its implementation. Biocom California supported Measure C when it was first on the ballot to facilitate the growth of life science conventions.
San Diego Mayoral Debate
In the first San Diego mayoral debate, incumbent Todd Gloria and challenger Larry Turner took on homelessness, bike lanes, street vendors and the housing crisis. Gloria highlighted the adding of shelter beds and housing incentives under his administration, while Turner said city efforts aren’t going far enough. The candidates also disagreed on bike lane planning and street vendor regulations. Polls show Gloria leading by a narrower margin, with many voters still undecided ahead of the election.
