Biocom California Hosts Roundtable with ARPA-H
On April 4, Biocom California hosted a roundtable with the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) Director Renee Wegrzyn and her team. ARPA-H is tasked with accelerating health outcomes by supporting the development of high-impact solutions.
San Diego life science companies, research institutes and universities had the unique opportunity to meet with the newest federal agency to discuss its research funding model and engage directly with high-level ARPA-H officials. The popular event was at maximum capacity with over 40 attendees.
Biocom California’s President and CEO, Joe Panetta, moderated a panel discussion with ARPA-H Director Renee Wegrzyn, Deputy Director Susan Monarez and members of their leadership team where they discussed the agency’s mission, research priorities and capabilities, funding mechanisms for small businesses, and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
In a following panel discussion, attendees heard from ARPA-H program managers about their current research focused on building resilient, integrated healthcare systems and expanding the future of health science. Program managers also outlined the project proposal application process and highlighted the key elements that support a strong proposal.
Afterward, the ARPA-H team and attendees broke off into smaller groups for more intimate discussions. Attendees had the opportunity to discuss their innovative technologies and current research efforts, ask the ARPA-H team questions and talk through challenges affecting healthcare research and the life science ecosystem.
