Selling to hospitals is becoming increasingly difficult because the hospitals and healthcare systems are changing.  There are many considerations that you may not have factored into your product development plan to maximize your chances for a rapid and successful launch.  If you have software or any sort of wireless aspect to your technology, it is imperative that you understand how your software integrates within the hospital IT infrastructure.  If you have any sort of capital equipment, you will need to understand that capital expense committees only meet during certain times of the year and have requirements that need to be met before purchasing decisions are made.  Lastly, just because your device may be more cost effective than your competitors, don’t think that price is the only advantage you need for adoption.

    Kevin Thompson, MBA, Vice President, Chief Supply Chain Officer, Sharp HealthCare
     
    Kevin Thompson is the vice president and chief supply chain officer for Sharp HealthCare.  Mr. Thompson oversees contract negotiation and procurement activities for four acute care hospitals, three specialty hospitals, and numerous medical clinics at Sharp HealthCare.
     
    Mr. Thompson began his career at Sharp in 1997 as the chief financial officer at the Sharp Metropolitan Medical Campus where for seventeen years he had financial management oversight of three hospitals, an outpatient surgery center, home care services, and two senior centers.
     
    Mr. Thompson has been an integral part of the executive leadership team at Sharp, achieving numerous health care awards and recognitions:  Forbes America’s Best Employers #16 - 2016, Ethisphere Institute’s World’s Most Ethical Company – 2016; Best Health Care Provider, Best Hospital, San Diego Union-Tribune – 2015; SDG&E Energy Champion HealthCare -2014; HealthCare’s Most Wired Hospitals & Health Networks – 2012-2016; Best Integrated Health Care System in California, 13th in the nation - 2010; California’s Best Place to Work – 5th Place – 2008; Magnet status, Sharp Memorial Hospital – 2008 and 2013; Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Recipient 2007; and The Leapfrog Group Excellence in Patient Safety and Health Care Quality 2006.
     
    Mr. Thompson received both his BS and MBA from San Diego State University.
